So who did the hacking? According to Mashable, the Syrian Electronic Army was happy to take credit for "trolling" Beliebers with the fake tweets. The group is definitely capable of causing mayhem on Twitter -- they're responsible for hacking the Associated Press last month and posting panic-inducing tweets about the White House being attacked.
Those tweets actually had a negative effect on the stock market, so it's odd that the Syrian Electronic Army traded causing real trouble for trying to spread gossip about a pop star.
